Connecting 4 wire dc gear motor

Forums:

I have a couple older Hennkwell 7.2 v dc gear motors. Is there a control board that can drive theses? They have 4 wires, Gnd, Vcc, A and B.

There are plenty, any motor controller that can drive a 2 wire 7.2V motor with enough current will work fine :)

Basically there are two pairs of wires, each doing different jobs. For driving the only pair you need are the Gnd and Vcc wires, which will be connected to the -ve and +ve output from the control board. The control board then varies the power / voltage to control the speed of the motor.

The other two signals, A and B, are used to determine the speed of the motor. They are either hall-effect outputs or encoder outputs. They are not needed to control the motor, they simply provide feedback when precise control is needed.

If the stall current is 5A or lower (likely the case) then our ThunderBorg board would work well for driving a pair of these motors :)
