Power supply rating

Forums:

I am looking to use the Thunderborg board and two 12V metal motor and wheel set (https://www.piborg.org/accessories/12v-motor) to provide movement for a praxinoscope (on a timer and push-button). What rating would you recommend for a power supply for this set-up?

We would recommend a 12V supply capable of at least 4.5A if you are powering the motors and a raspberry pi, or at least 3.5A if you are only powering the two motors.

The actual current used when running is much lower, but the motors tend to draw a fair bit when you first start them up. The additional current for the Raspberry Pi should be enough for both the Pi itself and any USB devices you may wish to use :)
